QinetiQ - Labour Attraction

Medicine Hat, a great place to build your resume.

“When I started my career, I never thought I would ever be hiring a rocket scientist,” said Corrie Dale, Vice President of QinetiQ Target Systems Canada (QTSC). QTSC is an original equipment manufacturer of defence and security products. Focused on target and surveillance systems, testing, evaluation, training, and mission readiness, they are one of the fastest growing companies in Southern Alberta.

Originally moving to Medicine Hat in 2006, Dale commented on her own career path which has been fast paced, “I started in the position of Inventory Assistant and Purchaser until 2008 when I accepted the position as Supply Chain Manager. In July of 2014, I was promoted to Director of Operations, and in January 2015, I was promoted to Vice President of QTSC.”

She is now responsible for the daily operations of the Medicine Hat facility, overseeing a team of over 55 employees ranging from Engineering, Operations, Account & Project Management to Finance and Administration.

With the growth of the company, QinetiQ continue to hire skilled workers. No matter which area of the business, there are lots of opportunities to build a career. “Medicine Hat is a great place if you want to build your resume,” said Dale. “We have hired local students right out of Medicine Hat College as well as attracted engineers from across the globe.”

Dale mentioned how the Medicine Hat location could make for a perfect hub for Aerospace and Defence activity, “we work with CFB Suffield and Defence Research and Development Canada, the Foremost UAS Test Range, and most recently have joined up with Prairie Rose Public Schools and their South Alberta Flight Academy to establish a drone mentorship program with the students. Medicine Hat is great for professionals, allowing you the career opportunities with companies like QTSC, while enjoying all the benefits of a smaller community.”

When asked what her new hires love about the community, she reflected on the general safe community atmosphere of Medicine Hat as well as the great work-life balance. “Instead of being stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic for their commute to or from work, many of our employees hop on their bikes and enjoy the hundreds of kilometers of bike paths or dirt trails,” said Dale. “Medicine Hat is a safe community where kids can be at the park playing with other kids or you as a family can spend the evenings enjoying them performing in their favourite extracurricular activity.”
